Labor Day weekend for us, and while we are taking a break from the every day business of life,
I thought we'd take a trip down memory lane with Isaac and his most beloved snack:
Popcorn being one of the first food signs, Isaac learned to sign and one of the first food words he learned to say,...always with those little fingers, alternating upward in sign:
Let's be clear: Isaac loves his popcorn,...
Searching our photo archives, I dredged up the first known photo of Isaac
munching on a movie theater treat,
and no, Isaac didn't last through the entire movie,
which was Tangled.
In fact, I don't think Isaac lasted through the pre-views,
before the movie started.
Too much sensory stuff,
despite the popcorn,
Daddy and Isaac took lots of "explore-the-corridor" breaks,
but at least we had a good photo pop!!!
I'll give you three hints while the popcorn is stored on top of the fridge,
and they all start with: I.I.I.
and yes,...our little guy has tried to navigate
more than once,
before he learned the sign for: CAREFUL,
which we use to mean danger!!!!
And it's a great location,
with NO footholds,
completely beyond our little guy's reach,
all's fair in love and nutrition,
and regulating snacks!!!
Nonverbal Isaac at this age,
as he used the verb: "Go!"
to mean everything,
as it was the only word apraxia allowed him to say,
still check out that expression,
it clearly says,
"Popcorn,...I LOVE YOU!!!"
comfort in Daddy's arms.
Sometimes,...Mama forgets to get the popcorn up high,
and then Isaac considers it 'fair-game" --
Oh,...Isaac knows he's caught with the unauthorized treat,
that grin couldn't get any smugger,
and Mama would have asserted some discipline,....
But Isaac started singing!!!
"AhhhHHHHHHhhhhh," sings Isaac,
and think Ariel in the Little Mermaid, singing her theme song,
that much imitation,...
had to be rewarded with some popcorn,...
and I got one of my most favorite pictures of Isaac!!!
And yes!!! He's a hoot!!!!
Until Isaac was born, it never occurred to me that Santa adored popcorn,...
Not just toys in Santa's sack,...
There is POPCORN,....
Now we are five years old,
and popcorn doesn't get old for a snack,
and we usually buy more than one bag at a time now,
as popcorn is not just for snacking,...
Call it incentive,...
Call it leverage,...
Call it leveling the playing field,...
but in Kindergarten,
Isaac works for popcorn treats,
and popcorn works as a means of helping him focus,
like sitting still,
keeping his fins to himself,
walking nicely in the halls,
because when you listen,...you learn.
Something to ponder,....
At home,...popcorn is just a treat,
usually a Friday night treat,
you can't live on popcorn,
I know Isaac would love to try,...
Isaac experiences the world in a different way,
and he makes sure YOU do too,
and that included,
anything to do with POPCORN!!!!
Until I post again,...may God bless and keep you!
